In a significant achievement for Japan’s space program, the Smart Lander for Investigating Moon (SLIM) has survived a second freezing lunar night, much to the surprise of the scientific community. The lander, despite landing upside down, managed to regain power and collect critical geological data from moon rocks before entering hibernation mode. Japan’s Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) is now preparing to reestablish contact once the vehicle has cooled, in a bid to unravel secrets about the moon’s origin.
