Led by four-time Olympian Sharath Kamal, the Indian men’s table tennis team defeated Chile 3-0 in their opening Group 3 encounter at the World Team Table Tennis Championships 2024 held in Busan, the Republic of Korea, on Saturday.
While Sharath and Harmeet Desai registered easy victories, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran had to toil a little harder to bag the third rubber.
Leading the way in the first match, reigning Commonwealth Games champion Sharath, world No. 95 in the latest ITTF rankings, outplayed Chile’s top-ranked player Nicolas Burgos, 53rd, 3-0 (11-5, 11-8, 11-6).
